Boston Herald reveals that the MBTA has secretly been cutting service.
February 16, 2008
The Herald reports that the MBTA has admitted to secretly cutting thousands of bus and train trips from its published schedules and claiming to offer higher service levels than it was actually providing. MBTA general manager Daniel Grabauskas said that what he called “hidden service cuts” had totaled more than 3,000 trips a month (out of the total of 600,000 bus and subway trips) in 2005 and 2006, but had decreased to between 1,000 and 1,800 bus trips and 80 subway trips a month in the most recent fiscal year.
